SAN FRANCISCO, April 23, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Leading peer-to-peer car rental marketplace, RelayRides, announced a major redesign of its iPhone app ahead of the busy summer travel season to make renting cars easier, faster and more reliable than ever. The improvements to the mobile experience on the iOS app are expected to accelerate revenue growth, which has increased by 3x over the last year and by 10x since 2012.
"Now that mobile has surpassed desktop as the primary way to access RelayRides, we expect these improvements to our iOS app to further accelerate our growth," said Andre Haddad, CEO of RelayRides.
Currently ranked in the top 50 for travel apps in the App Store, improvements to the RelayRides iOS app include a complete redesign of the member dashboard for owners and renters, streamlined booking, support for committed requests and full international driver on-boarding. International travelers can now sign-up for RelayRides and book a rental entirely from the app. New improvements to the iOS app and online marketplace are critical next-steps in RelayRides' continued US growth, improved international renter experience and eventual expansion into international markets.
"Over the last six months, we have focused on what has proven to be the best user experience for the peer-to-peer model of car rentals: long duration and travel rentals," added Haddad. "This shift of focus on rentals over 24 hours and on travelers—who now comprise over half our bookings—has propelled RelayRides to 3x growth in the last year."
In the last year, RelayRides has grown rapidly to serve hundreds of thousands of members using tens of thousands of cars in more than 2,100 cities nationally. During the same period, active vehicle listings have more than doubled to include over 800 unique makes and models of cars and trucks. Travelers can now find RelayRides listings at 295 airports nationally, where they can expect greater selection, convenience and prices on average 40 percent lower than at traditional rental companies.
RelayRides is the nation's largest car sharing marketplace. With vehicles in over 2,100 cities nationally, RelayRides' mission is to disrupt and reinvent the $60 billion global car rental industry by efficiently connecting people who need a car with owners whose vehicle would otherwise go unused. RelayRides backs each reservation with a $1 million insurance policy and has raised more than $18 million in venture capital funding from investors including Google Ventures, August Capital, Shasta Ventures and General Motors Ventures.
