Remove Expensive and Superfluous Infrastructure from your Data Centre
Network infrastructure bandwidth costs are tumbling, VM favours iSCSI. Now you can protect your investment in Fibre Channel peripherals yet take advantage of the benefits of iSCSI, thus sweating your tape assets.
CHRISTCHURCH, England, October 22, 2014 /PRNewswire/ --
Bridgeworks, innovator and the planet's leader in Bridging Technologies with the BRidgeIT suite of solutions, has extended its Oresund iSCSI to Fibre Channel Gateways allowing for up to 16 Fibre Channel ports.
With the move to VM coupled with the reduction in cost of 10Gb and 40Gb network infrastructures, iSCSI is gaining ground as a viable SAN technology in the Data Centre. Whilst iSCSI can now be found on all disk arrays, high performance tape devices continue to rely on Fibre Channel interfaces. With many tape libraries supporting multiple tape devices, it is now possible to reduce costs and simplify the installation by a connection directly to the tape devices from the Oresund Gateway rather than via an expensive Fibre Channel infrastructure and associated switches. To address rocketing demand and broader tape library requirements, Bridgeworks has introduced new models that support 2, 4, 8, 12 and 16 Fibre Channel ports for the Oresund 40Gb iSCSI range as well as 2 and 4 ports for the Oresund 10Gb iSCSI range.
With these additions the Oresund product range now spans from entry level through to the most colossal enterprise.
Claire Buchanan, SVP Global Operations at Bridgeworks said, "It is no secret that with the increase of virtualisation in the data centre, companies are adopting iSCSI for their SAN. This has accelerated now that 40Gb networks are reaching an adoption price point. We were the first company to spot this trend with our Oresund product. By increasing the number of supported Fibre Channel ports it is now possible for our customers to retire the expensive Fibre Channel infrastructure that would otherwise sit between the Oresund and the Fibre Channel Tape Libraries along with all the complexity and associated cost."
