Replay Technologies, Inc. Closes Class A Stock Round Investment; Partners with Samsung Venture Investment Corporation to Explore Broader Applications
DALLAS, June 2, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Replay Technologies, Inc. (Replay), makers of the revolutionary, freeD™ (free dimensional video) broadcast technology, announced today an investment from Samsung Venture Investment Corporation (SVIC). This investment follows Guggenheim Partners' US$9 million investment last month.
"Replay continues to expand its reach across the North American sports and entertainment markets, with significant and untapped growth potential," said Replay Technologies' CEO and Co-founder, Oren H. Yogev. "We are about to significantly improve the viewing experience of second screen users globally and we are pleased to partner with SVIC to achieve this revolutionary user immersion experience goal."
Replay, launched in December 2011, creates exclusive perspectives and angles for the televised and mobile device world through innovative proprietary freeD™ technology. Replay allows the audience to view the broadcast of any live-action event from every possible angle. The proprietary freeD™ algorithm allows Replay to synchronize all images captured from an array of Ultra HD cameras and render the resulting 360-degree image in real time, creating a virtual three-dimensional model of the action for replay. In the words of Fast Company magazine freeD™ technology "turns sports highlights into jaw-dropping 360-degree clips" reminiscent of the iconic sci-fi film "The Matrix." Fast Company magazine recognized Replay as No. 4 on its 2014 list of The World's Top 10 Most Innovative Companies in Sports.
"Replay fits perfectly into our strategy of investing in Tier 1 technology companies," said Gonzalo Martinez de Azagra, who heads SVIC investments in Israel. "Its freeD™ technology is primed to revolutionize the way users consume content on their devices beyond live action events. We look forward to helping Oren and his first-rate management team build out this exciting business."
"In a short period of time, we expect freeD™ to be used by smartphones, tablets and smart TVs consumers to watch and interact with their favorite sports and entertainment telecasts," added Yogev. "Our investment from SVIC will help us transform the audience experience into one that is more than interactive, one that will be user defined. Today's announcement is a monumental one for everyone involved."
Terms of the deal were not immediately disclosed. However, a majority of the stock round capital came from Guggenheim Partners, with the remainder being completed by SVIC and existing super angel investors in both the United States and Israel.

About Replay Technologies
Our vision is to power the next big revolution in video by using our proprietary freeD™ technology to create novel viewing experiences. Ultimately, we believe the viewing experience of most broadcast related events, from sports to news to film, will be 'freed' from the limitation of what had been shot by physical cameras, raising both the storytelling possibilities and the user immersion possibilities to whole new levels.
We aim to disrupt the fundamental operating cost structure for broadcasting, cinema and other fields (biomedical, security, etc.) by the implementation of new viewing angles and un-manned cameras where none existed in reality.
Replay won the TV Technical Achievement in the 57th Annual New York Emmy Awards held 30 March 2014. The nomination recognizes the Replay freeD™ technology behind "YES View," used to enhance New York Yankees Major League Baseball broadcasts last year for the YES Network.
Replay recently completed a successful partnership with the NBA during the 2014 All-Star Weekend in New Orleans. The company has ongoing strategic partnerships with Yankees Stadium in New York, Dodgers Stadium in Los Angeles, and AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas to televise NFL, MLB, and NCAA football and basketball. The company also featured its game-changing freeD™ Arena Replay System at the 2014 BNP Paribas Open in Indian Wells, and the 2014 NCAA Final Four.
