DUBLIN, October 14, 2016 /PRNewswire/ --
Research and Markets has announced the addition of the "Global Automotive Hill Descent Control Market 2016-2020" report to their offering.
The global automotive hill descent control (HDC) market is forecast to grow at a CAGR of 6.8% during the period 2016-2020.
According to the report, surge in demand for off-road and multi-utility vehicles will be a key driver for market growth. All-terrain vehicles offer a large market for HDC systems. Currently, HDC systems are offered in most four-wheel drive and all-wheel drive off-road vehicles.
However, the market has seen the recent introduction of HDC in two-wheel drive off-road vehicles as well. Now, many off-road automakers offer HDC as a standard feature in their vehicles. Although the demand for off-road vehicles in the developed economies showed slow growth in the recent years, the market in developing economies like India and China promise huge growth potential due to regulatory relaxations.
Further, the report states that one of the challenges for the market will be lack of automation and thermal damage to brake components due to prolonged use. use of HDC can temporarily disable the system due to overheating of the braking system. On top of that, HDC must be activated manually rather than being triggered automatically as per the slope of the terrain.
Rather than using a temperature sensor, HDC system uses a programmed logic in the ECU to predict the temperature of the brake system based on different conditions. Sometimes, the programmed logic provided to the ECU may provide faulty dataset due to presence of different driving conditions across the globe. This can lead to thermal wear and tear in the brake components due to intensive braking by the HDC system.
