Respiratory Motion Welcomes Former Siemens Health Services Executive as Head of Business Development

Subrata Guha brings 25 years of global business, strategy, strategic alliance, and sales leadership experience to the maker of revolutionary respiratory monitoring systems

WALTHAM, Mass., Dec. 15, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- Respiratory Motion, Inc. – A technology industry veteran, Subrata Guha has joined medical device manufacturer Respiratory Motion, Inc. as its vice president of business development.

Guha, who most recently led the creation of the Office of the Ecosystems at Siemens Healthcare, brings more than 25 years of global industry experience to Respiratory Motion. He has worked with small, medium, and Fortune 500 companies serving healthcare, enterprise, service provider and industrial markets.

As vice president of the Office of the Ecosystems at Siemens Healthcare, he led the creation of an ecosystem group for Siemens Health Services. The group, which developed partnerships with complimentary companies, had a mission to provide comprehensive solutions and services for healthcare providers.

Earlier, Guha was vice president of sales for Sixnet, a global leader in industrial and commercial machine-to-machine networking solutions using integrated wireless, automation and connectivity technology. He was a key player in driving the company's double-digit annual growth, which led to its acquisition in 2011 by Red Lion Control, where he was responsible for global sales as executive vice president of sales.

Previously, Guha held executive level sales and business development positions at Avaya, ADC Telecom, Broadband Access Systems, Spider Software, Axon Networks, and Spider Systems.

Guha joins the company at a time when a growing number of health care providers are looking for improved respiratory monitoring technology to replace unreliable systems. 

In the hospital, changes in breathing status often precede deterioration towards respiratory depression and cardiac arrest. Each year, cardiopulmonary arrests may reach 160,000 cases and lead to thousands of deaths.  Commonly, cardiopulmonary arrests are preceded by respiratory events.

The U.S. Department of Health & Human Services' Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality finds the annual costs of respiratory insufficiency, arrest and failure was $7.8 billion in 2007, making respiratory issues one of the fastest drivers of hospital inpatient cost increases in the United States.

Minute ventilation is used to monitor the amount of air actually breathed by a patient.
