Responsive Classroom Publishes "Doing Language Arts in Morning Meeting"
New Book Features Activities to Boost Students' Language Arts Skills
TURNERS FALLS, Mass., Feb. 26, 2015 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Center for Responsive Schools, Inc. (CRS), the sole source provider of the Responsive Classroom approach to teaching, has published a new book, Doing Language Arts in Morning Meeting. The book features a collection of 150 simple but powerful activities to give students meaningful practice in key language arts skills while building community, nurturing students' confidence in themselves as learners, and fostering academic engagement.
Responsive Classroom Morning Meetings offer teachers a structured and purposeful way to start each day on a positive note while serving as an ideal opportunity to deepen students' academic engagement. Teachers will find language arts activities for each component of Morning Meeting—greeting, sharing, group activity, and morning message. And for those who don't hold Morning Meetings, the activities can be used at any time during the school day.
The 150 fun, lively activities for K–6 teachers can be used with any curriculum. All of the activities are quick (5 to 10 minutes), require few or no materials, and have clear, step-by-step directions. Each activity connects to key Common Core standards and language arts concepts on which the standards are based.
"The Responsive Classroom approach strengthens educators' ability to design lessons that are active and interactive and start each day in a way that sets a positive tone for learning," says Lora Hodges, Executive Director at Center for Responsive Schools. "This book will help teachers to support students in actively engaging in their learning, participating in lively dialogues, and developing higher-order thinking as they advance their language arts skills."
From reading poetry with sound effects to pantomiming idioms to guessing which character someone's describing, the activities in Doing Language Arts in Morning Meeting are active and interactive, varied and challenging, and involve the whole class in lively learning.
Doing Language Arts in Morning Meeting is priced at $25 and can be purchased from Responsive Classroom: http://responsiveclassroom.org/product/doing-language-arts-morning-meeting
