SCOTTSDALE, Ariz., May 5, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- RiceBran Technologies (NASDAQ: RIBT and RIBTW) (the "Company" or "RBT"), a global leader in the production and marketing of value added products derived from rice bran, announced today that it has entered into two agreements: a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with non-profit The Jack Brewer Foundation (JBF Worldwide) to develop rice bran based supplemental feeding programs currently assisted by JBF Worldwide at orphanages in Malawi and Haiti; and a business development agreement with Brewer + Associates Consulting, LLC (B+A) to collaborate on the planned launch of a new line of sports nutrition products with a portion of profits earmarked to provide rice bran based meal supplements for feeding programs covered by the MOU.
The launch of these initiatives will be announced on Friday, May 6th at the United Nations Headquarters in New York during a panel discussion on food security and food safety, surrounding the exhibition titled "We Are What We Eat". The panel discussion begins at 6:00 pm EDT to be followed by a reception.
As part of the MOU, RBT and JBF Worldwide will cooperate with non-profits and international agencies to conduct feeding trials at orphanages in Malawi and Haiti supported by JBF Worldwide to further document the well-known health benefits of meal supplementation with rice bran based products. RBT and B+A will also collaborate to launch a range of sports nutrition products developed and manufactured by RBT using its proprietary and patented ingredients including pre/post-workout powdered beverages, a healthy green meal replacement, and a two-product body-mass builder. The companies expect to launch this new sports nutrition business in late 2016 or early 2017.
"We are excited to collaborate with The Jack Brewer Foundation to support its humanitarian efforts by providing meal supplements based on sales of sports nutrition products," stated W. John Short, CEO and President of RBT. "We believe our proprietary rice bran products can provide a unique solution for those areas in the world where large populations suffer from malnutrition and related disease states. We look forward to conducting further studies that demonstrate the cost effective benefits of our rice bran based products for use in supplemental feeding programs worldwide. It is also exciting to work with Jack and his team to bring a proprietary line of sports nutrition products to the market where a portion of profits will help support feeding programs in orphanages supported by The Jack Brewer Foundation. With initial product development already completed, we are now in the process of evaluating packaging alternatives and formulating strategies for the planned launch."
Jack Brewer, Chief Executive Officer of The Brewer Group, Inc. and Founder/Executive Director of The Jack Brewer Foundation stated, "I am extremely honored to partner with RiceBran Technologies and work together to enhance awareness of their revolutionary proprietary and patented products, while helping bring global food safety and security across the world through our various collaborative initiatives." Mr. Brewer continued, "Our partnership is an instrumental step forward for both of our organizations, and we are excited to get to work on multiple projects that will use a portion of the profits from our commercial business activities to make a positive impact on many communities in need."
