PITTSBURGH, March 20, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- (www.riverset.com) Riverset Credit Union, one of the largest cooperative credit unions in the Pittsburgh region, is celebrating its 80th anniversary of serving members. On March 20, 1934, the credit union was officially created by the Pittsburgh Board of Education as the Pittsburgh Teachers Credit Union. At that time, services were only available to those employed by the Pittsburgh Public School System.
The credit union was headquartered in the Pittsburgh Board of Education Building located in the Oakland neighborhood of Pittsburgh until 1999. At that time, the organization had grown to a size that warranted a move into a branch office on the South Side of Pittsburgh. This move coincided with the opening of a branch for the increased convenience of the members.
"Riverset Credit Union is committed to its members and future members, as well as the community-at-large," states Christine Chojnicki, President and CEO of Riverset. She continues, "We are excited about the growth Riverset has achieved over the years and continue to give back through our Riverset GIVES program. Riverset is proud of our 80 years of providing advantageous financial services to our members. As we mark this anniversary, it is exciting to think about what the next decades hold for Riverset Credit Union and its members."
Originally chartered as a single employer group (SEG), the credit union migrated to a multi-SEG credit union through mergers with the McKeesport Hospital Employees Federal Credit Union and the Duke Federal Credit Union. It was in 2007 that the Pittsburgh Teachers Credit Union secured approval to serve defined "underserved community areas" in the South Side and surrounding areas of Pittsburgh and in 2009 received approval to operate in Allegheny, Beaver and Butler counties. The name was officially changed to Riverset Credit Union during 2008 to reflect the growing membership and service area.
Today, Riverset Credit Union is chartered to serve those living, attending school, working or worshiping in the counties of Allegheny, Beaver and Butler. The organization provides benefits to over 15,000 members and holds over $122.5 million in assets. Riverset Credit Union continues its commitment to provide full-service, competitive financial products to its members, offering the advantages of a large financial institution with the personal service of a hometown bank.
