Robin Hood allocates 100% of funds raised from 12-12-12 The Concert for Sandy Relief; Total grants made since October surpass $68.3 million
NEW YORK, March 27, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- The Robin Hood Relief Fund has announced another $5.6 million in grants to organizations in New York and New Jersey that are helping people devastated by Hurricane Sandy. This latest round of funding includes a $2 million grant to Habitat for Humanity which will go toward rebuilding 600 homes in New York City by the end of 2013.
With these latest grants, Robin Hood's Relief Committee has allocated all of the funds it raised during 2012 specifically for organizations helping victims of Hurricane Sandy, including money donated by more than 260,000 generous individuals during 12-12-12 The Concert for Sandy Relief held at Madison Square Garden on December 12. Since January 1, people have donated another $2.5 million to Robin Hood's Relief Fund to help people in the tri-state area recover from the storm.
Robin Hood's total Sandy Relief Fund is now $70.5 million, of which 97% has been granted.
Below is the list of the grants approved at Robin Hood's March 22 Relief Committee Meeting:
$5.05 MILLION
Habitat for Humanity
New York City
$2,000,000
This grant will fund Habitat for Humanity International to build and lead a consortium of volunteer agencies to repair 600 homes in New York City. Similar to NYC's mold remediation initiative, The Mayor's Fund to Advance New York City and the Red Cross are also contributing to this rebuilding effort.
Hudson County Long Term Recovery Group
Hudson County, NJ
$450,000
This grant will assist low-income and vulnerable Hurricane Sandy victims in Hudson County with rent payments, deposits and back utilities; home goods and furniture; appliance replacement; home repair; and mold remediation. Of this grant, $385,000 will go towards funding a quarter of the unmet needs fund for this initiative. The remaining $65,000 will go towards hiring key personnel to manage recovery efforts.
Atlantic County Long Term Recovery Group
Atlantic County, NJ
$300,000
Funds will be used to assist low-income and vulnerable Sandy victims living in Atlantic County municipalities impacted by Sandy with financial assistance for rent, mortgage and security deposits and the purchasing of essential home contents and appliances. The United Way of Greater Philadelphia and Southern New Jersey will serve as the fiscal agent for the grant which will provide assistance ranging between $500 and $2,000 per family on average.
St. Bernard Project

Born out of Hurricane Katrina, Saint Bernard Project (S.B.P.) seeks to rebuild homes as well as help communities understand their own strengths in the process of recovery. This grant will help S.B.P. continue to work with Robin Hood grantees and guide them through some of the complications of rebuilding.
Healing Emergency Aid Response Team 9/11 (HEART 9/11)
New York City
$225,000
HEART 9/11 uses skilled volunteer labor to rebuild communities in the wake of disasters and to build accessible housing for wounded veterans. This grant will be allocated toward building materials, equipment, tools and transportation; hiring four veterans to serve as project coordinators; the cost of liability insurance, a limited amount of administrative support; and the cost of an additional used vehicle, generator and equipment trailer to use for work.
Borough of Beach Haven
Ocean County, NJ
$200,000
More than 1,100 single family homes in Beach Haven sustained damage due to Hurricane Sandy. Funds will go to support the short-term needs of senior citizens, such as payment of utility bills, basic needs and repairs to make homes livable as well as the long term needs of year-round residents who need to fill gaps between home expenses and insurance/FEMA coverage.
New Jersey Coalition to End Homelessness
Ocean County, NJ
$200,000
With these funds, Coalition and its partners in Ocean County can get homeless individuals and families displaced by Sandy into apartments, or extra rooms available for rent in other apartments or houses. Based on the regular rental rates in the county, $10,000 can house one household for a year. Therefore $200,000 could house as many as 40 households for six months.
Sayreville Storm Relief Center
Middlesex County, NJ
$165,000
This grant will allow the Borough of Sayreville to hire a company that can provide elevation certificates – needed in order to get an accurate estimate of the cost to repair the homes in the flood-affected areas – for affected parts of the town. The grant will also go toward hiring a coordinator to track this assessment process and the status of the applications of the residents.
Borough of Keansburg Trust
Monmouth County, NJ
$150,000
The Borough of Keansburg has identified 140 low and moderate income owner-occupied residences and tenants/renters in the Borough whose properties were substantially damaged due to the devastation caused by Hurricane Sandy. This grant will fund the assessment demolition and rebuilding needs of these families and broaden outreach to an additional 1,700+ families.
Gateway Church of Christ
Monmouth County, NJ
$150,000
This grant will allow Gateway Church of Christ to expand the work of their volunteer teams into the towns of Keansburg and Highlands. The funds proposed for G.C.C. would cover gaps in town funding for families, either to replace the lost contents of their homes, or to obtain supplies needed for volunteer teams to complete repairs. Awards will be in the range of $2,500-$3,500 per house, and this grant will help at least 45 families to return to their homes.
Bayshore Discovery Project
Cumberland County, NJ
$130,000
As New Jersey's poorest county, Cumberland did not receive long term recovery funding until the last days of January. This grant will go toward funding unmet needs and providing part-time case management.
United Way of Hudson County
Hudson County, NJ
$130,000
This grant will go toward funding emergency shelter in Hudson County for over 50 people for three months. Funds will also go towards counseling services and management of the Hudson County Long Term Recovery Group.
Grace Calvary Church
Ocean County, NJ
$100,000
Ship Bottom, a borough of Long Beach Island, has chosen Grace Calvary Church to administer relief assistance for year-round residents. The grants will enable individuals to afford preliminary costs (rebuilding supplies and expenses, permits, engineering costs, etc.) associated with rebuilding their homes as well as other expenses.
Jewish Community Council of the Rockaway Peninsula
New York City
$100,000
This grant will assist low-income families with home repair and expenses, replacement of appliances and furniture, payment of overdue mortgages, rent and utility bills and gift cards to purchase necessities.
Vision Long Island
Long Island, NY
$100,000
Vision Long Island will partner with local builders and developers to rebuild 15 houses owned by families most in need of assistance, residing in Lindenhurst, Freeport and Mastic Beach. This grant will go toward the cost of supplies, labor, and architecture and administrative support. Vision will also designate an administrative coordinator and a construction manager to provide oversight for the actual rebuilding of the homes.
Lighthouse Alliance Community Church
Ocean County, NJ

This grant will help purchase construction materials to rebuild families' homes in the Pinelands Community (Little Egg Harbor, Tuckerton, New Gretna and West Creek). The grant will be allocated to purchasing drywall, kitchen cabinets, doors, insulation, flooring and tools to complete work on 40-50 homes in the next six months.
United Church of Praise International Ministries, Inc.

This grant will help the United Church of Praise provide housing-related assistance (security deposits, first-month rent) to residents of the North Shore communities of Staten Island.
Funtown Peers
Seaside Park, NJ

This grant will help Funtown Peers maintain their program for Seaside Park primary residents in need of assistance to rebuild and resettle. Funds will provide $750 for households mainly in the form of bill payments and gift cards to year-round residents of Seaside Park who have been displaced.
The Long Beach Christmas Angel, Inc.

This grant will ensure that families in crisis secure the essential cash they need in order to help them with their expenses related to home repairs as well as to purchase essential items (such as appliances, boilers, hot water heaters) to replace those destroyed by the storm.

This grant will allow Salem Church to continue to help families purchase rebuilding materials.
Village of Mastic Beach

Previously, a $200,000 grant was approved to help the Village of Mastic Beach bring home its displaced residents and help those facing significant repairs by restoring homes, providing rental assistance and home furnishings. This supplemental grant will go towards assisting with repairs to provide additional funds to make the homes habitable again.
Volunteer Management Center

This grant will increase the staff capacity of V.M.C to manage volunteer projects around the state that are supporting Hurricane Sandy recovery efforts.
Cape May County Long Term Recovery Group

Funds will support the hiring of a part-time case manager who will provide residents of Cape May County – many of whom are elderly or undocumented – with direct client support and assistance in applying for funds from the Long Term Recovery Group.
Community Resources
New York City

The Freeborn Street residence in Midland Beach houses adults with mental disabilities. Damaged due to flooding, these funds will help outfit the home with appliances and proper furniture for the residents.
St. Cassian's Church One House at a Time
Monmouth County, NJ
$10,000
This grant will go toward home repairs of an elderly individual whose house was flooded by Hurricane Sandy. Using volunteer labor, the repairs should be completed within two months.
HEALTH AND MENTAL HEALTH

Deborah Hospital Foundation
Burlington, Ocean and Monmouth Counties, NJ
$250,000
This grant will cover the costs of health screenings and comprehensive pulmonary and cardiovascular evaluations for residents of Burlington, Ocean and Monmouth counties, as well as to first responders, construction/muck out volunteers, contractors or any other individual directly affected by the storm. Funds will cover screenings for more than 1,000 patients and will also cover the uninsured portion of additional testing that may be required for some patients.

This grant will help the recovery of 10 hard hit early childhood centers located in several counties in New Jersey. Save the Children will help these facilities return to full operation between March and May with new classroom materials, program equipment, food supplies and modest repairs, at an average cost of about $23,000 per center.

This grant will cover salaries for two full-time employees over the next six months who will coordinate legal advice, case management and counseling services for Sea Bright residents.
Rockaway Recovers

Rockaway Recovers receives referrals for case management from FEMA and other local agencies. They in turn make connections to child-care services, donations, medical and mental health professionals, home repair and mold remediation services. The grant will support case management training for the organizations.
