BEVERLY HILLS, Calif., July 10, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Dr. Bruce Lee, fibroid surgeon and inventor of the Acessa procedure, has opened his practice in Beverly Hills in conjunction with the Rox Center. Dr. Lee has worked to bring this unique treatment for women by harnessing the power of radiofrequency energy. This allows women to have their fibroids treated with a minimally invasive outpatient procedure that is safe and very effective. This treatment is an alternative to morcellation, uterine artery embolization, and hysterectomy.
"I am very excited to bring my knowledge and 15 years of experience in treating fibroids with the Acessa procedure to patients who suffer from symptomatic uterine fibroids. Acessa is a new, FDA-cleared, minimally invasive, outpatient procedure that is safe, effective, and produces both tumor shrinkage and symptom relief. It requires but two small incisions (1.0 and 0.5 cm) and permits return to normal activities within a few days. My Acessa patient from last week, a physician from Atlanta, GA, felt she could have worked the next day and did not take any medications for pain." – Dr. Bruce Lee
The Rox Center is home to Dr. Drew Ordon, the co-host of the daytime talk show, "The Doctors." He and his fellow surgeons are all pleased that Dr. Bruce Lee has chosen Beverly Hills and the Rox Center to roll out this ground breaking operation.
"Dr. Bruce Lee is an innovator, an advocate for women's health, and a healer. His talents are welcome in our center and I am more than happy to support him as he begins treating patients in the Rox Center." – Dr. Drew Ordon
The procedure requires a one-hour consultation with an ultrasound to assess the fibroids and plan the operations. On a separate day, the patient is taken to the operating room for a minimally invasive, laparoscopic procedure where the fibroids are treated with a radiofrequency probe that destroys the tumor, but leaves the surrounding uterus intact. The patient goes home that day and usually returns to work in 3 or 4 days. Over the next 3-6 months, the fibroids shrink and symptoms improve and frequently resolve.
Dr. Jay Calvert, director of the Roxbury Surgical Associates Medical Group, congratulates Dr. Lee on his achievements. "The work Dr. Lee has done for the treatment of fibroids is extraordinary. We are very pleased he has chosen Rox Center." – Dr. Jay Calvert
