RSG Media Helps Automate Leading Broadcast Network
Digital scheduling helps content programmers remove complexities from digital supply chain
NEW YORK, Sept. 10, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- RSG Media announced today that one of the nation's largest broadcast programmers is now live with RightsLogic®, using it to manage its broadcast and digital supply chain for all its broadcast, cable, on demand, and digital networks.
Faced with increasingly complex rights, restrictions, and obligations, the programmer is using RightsLogic to take full advantage of available windows, while ensuring that it meets its commitments to its distribution partners, and adheres to contractual terms.
In the past, linear television was straightforward: deliver a signal to the NOC and broadcast to millions of viewers. Digital is far more complex: more windows, more distributors, more platforms, more commitments, more restrictions, more headaches. To bring order to its digital operations, the broadcaster installed RightsLogic for Rights In, Rights Out and Program Planning & Scheduling for broadcast, on demand and digital & mobile.
By using RightsLogic to manage the content lifecycle, from deal to play-out, the programmer now makes the best use of broadcast, cable, and digital opportunities. Where each network used to have its own system, now everyone across the company is working off the same information.
"This client was particularly interesting for us," noted RSG's head of Strategy & Innovation, Thomas Siegman. "They have the full gamut of programming, from sports, with its cascading windows, to serialized soap operas that get sliced and diced for digital, to breaking news clips, to archival footage that is truly priceless. We were thrilled about the opportunity to help them simplify their operations and increase their ROI on content."
The integration challenge with the networks proved much simpler than originally thought. "We already had APIs and web services ready for virtually all the major traffic engines, DAMs & MAMs, ERP/GL Systems, and other critical systems," noted Ram Arcot, RSG Media's CTO. "To complete the integration, we added APIs to integrate program metadata, rights and usage with CMS and play-out systems using a centralized Enterprise Service Bus. As a result, we now have a digital supply chain that we can stand up quickly and easily."
"Our goal is to remove the complexity from the digital supply chain for our customers," continued Mr. Siegman. "We want our clients to know that digital is not something they 'have to do,' rather it's an opportunity that they get to leverage."
