RT Washington DC Studio To Host Second Round Of Third-Party Debate
MOSCOW, Oct. 26, 2012 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- RT came to an agreement with the Free and Equal Elections Foundation, organizers of the presidential debates between third-party candidates, to hold the second round of the debates in RT's Washington studio. RT will air it live on October 30th.
The debate will be between Libertarian candidate Gary Johnson and Green Party candidate Jill Stein. They were picked from four candidates by an online vote after the first round, which was broadcast by RT live on October 23rd.
"After the first round we received enormous feedback from our US audience. And we are happy that the next round will take place in RT's studio in Washington, D.C. I am sure the discussion between Gary Johnson and Jill Stein will spark as much public interest," said RT editor-in-chief Margarita Simonyan.
The first round of the debates attracted a lot of media attention in the US, yet none of the major US networks televised it. 'It's the equivalent of a sad joke that Americans must rely on Russia Today in order to watch their own Presidential debate,' says US magazine Examiner. These concerns are echoed by The Wall Street Journal's headline: 'Kremlin's TV Seeks to Overcome U.S. "Information Blockade."'
Live broadcast of the debates on RT America starts at 9 pm EDT on October 30th. The debates will also be broadcast on RT's YouTube channel, which has more than 800 million views, and on rt.com.
