Rum & Humble Rolls Out 2012 In Style -- Creative Production Company Renews Santa Monica Pier Twilight Concert Series Pact Rock & Roll Hall of Famer Lou Reed Kicks Off WIRE:t/a/p with Unique "Soundscape" Installation
LOS ANGELES, Feb. 21, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- Rum & Humble, in its 21st year of operation under the leadership of industry veteran Martin Fleischmann, announced today an agreement to handle talent bookings and production for the 2012 Santa Monica Pier summer concert series. The contract continues to build on the success of the firm's inaugural run of concerts at the Pier from July through September 2011.
Last month saw the launch of WIRE:t/a/p--an exploration of the creative methods and motivations of some of the world's most brilliant artistic minds. WIRE:t/a/p -- What Is Recorded Energy: talk/art/performance – debuted January 27, 2012 with a world premiere installation at Cal State Long Beach featuring the music of Rock & Roll Hall of Famer and Velvet Underground legend Lou Reed, alongside noted music producer Bob Ezrin (Pink Floyd, Peter Gabriel, Alice Cooper). "Metal Machine Music," Reed's avant-garde 1975 album, is re-born as Metal Machine Trio: The Creation of the Universe using a 3-dimensional audio recording of Reed's 2009 concert at New York's Gramercy Theatre. Utilizing a high-tech sound encoding process, the "soundscape" installation, which runs through April 15th at the University Art Museum's Project Room, allows visitors to experience the music from exactly the same sonic perspective as Reed.
"Through concerts, lectures and installations, the program will delve into uncharted territory at the intersection of contemporary classical and high-brow popular music," Martin Fleischmann said. "For a lot of people the concert experience has become fairly rote. You buy your ticket, you listen, you clap, you give a standing ovation, they give an encore and you clap more. Then you're both gone. I've come up with this project to spice it up and let people get deep into the minds of the creators."
Rum & Humble continues to produce musical events featuring top domestic and international acts at venues throughout Southern California, including Coldplay May 1, 2 & 4 and the Beach Boys reunion June 2 at the famed Hollywood Bowl in collaboration with Andrew Hewitt and Bill Silva.
