Runtastic Fitness App Debuts For Android 4.3 with Bluetooth Smart Technology Running app upgrades to lighter interface, improved functionality, and better battery life
SAN FRANCISCO, July 25, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- Today Runtastic — an innovative suite of apps, products and services that track and manage health and fitness data to motivate individuals to get in shape, stay healthy and improve overall fitness — debuted their brand new, fully optimized running app, specifically for the just-announced Android 4.3 operating system. The announcement comes as Google unveils the new Android 4.3 OS and debuts its new Nexus 7 tablet. All new Bluetooth Smart Ready handsets running Android 4.3 – and the Samsung Galaxy S4 – will be compatible with Runtastic's Bluetooth Smart proprietary fitness hardware.
"Android is the chosen platform for the majority of the world's smartphone users, so we've created an app specifically tailored to the new 4.3 experience," said Florian Gschwandtner, CEO of Runtastic. "And since the Runtastic heart rate monitor is already compatible with new Bluetooth Smart Ready Android phones, we're providing a comprehensive fitness destination for Android users."
Runtastic Sets New Standards
Runtastic version 4.0 has been completely redesigned, following the new Android Holo design guidelines, to present a lighter, more elegant user interface. Maps have been integrated into the main screen during activities to allow users to easily use and view the route feature offering. And the innovative drawer navigation grants users quick and direct access to all menu items.
Runtastic Proprietary Hardware for Android Smartphones
All Bluetooth Smart Ready devices running the Android 4.3 operating system – and Samsung's Galaxy series (S4, S3, S3 Mini, and Note 2) – support Bluetooth Smart technology, which allows users to integrate Runtastic proprietary fitness hardware into their workout routines. Runtastic's Bluetooth Heart Rate Monitor can now sync directly to Android 4.3 devices without using a receiver. Runtastic is currently working to make its Speed and Cadence Sensor sync via Bluetooth Smart to the Runtastic Road Bike and Mountain Bike apps.
Founded in 2009, Runtastic has rapidly grown into an innovative suite of apps, products and services that track and manage health and fitness data to motivate individuals to get in shape, stay healthy and improve overall fitness. With more than 35 million downloads and 15 million registered users on Runtastic.com, Runtastic's mobile applications sync directly with proprietary hardware to track distance, speed, pace, time, heart rate, calorie consumption and route traveled (via maps) when running, biking or engaging in other exercise activities. The results can then be viewed directly within the app, via Runtastic GPS devices or on Runtastic.com where users can view their online training log, get detailed data analysis and compare with others.
