To honor her Slavic heritage and the profound influence it has had on her art, Ana Tzarev has followed in the tradition of renowned Russian artists Bilibin and Kandinsky and created her own contemporary rendition of the Russian Fairy Tales she grew up with. Inspired by these fantastical stories and the Palekh boxes she collects, Tzarev recreates these magical scenes from her childhood imagination. This new series captures the characters, scenes, and sentiment of stories that have been cherished for centuries.
The classic tales themselves are rich with characters and engaging plots - each ending with a message of morality. Many of the scenes depicted in Tzarev's paintings reflect a similar allegory, portraying a fluid sense of fellowship and humanity between people from varying stations of life. Whether conflict or reward, Ana Tzarev brings a new vision in her signature style of vibrant color and bold texture to these beloved stories.
"My paintings tell stories rich in the diversity, customs and traditions that shape civilizations throughout time. I document culture for future generations so that they can look back with pride at their own heritage..." Ana Tzarev
A true original, Ana Tzarev has taken a new approach to painting, bringing a freshness and vitality to her canvases seldom seen in the art world today. Her unique new style builds lush sculptural surfaces that give the total experience of the artist being in the moment, fused with the subject. The energy required to render her paintings is tremendous and the resultant works are vibrant, powerful and emotional
