SACRAMENTO, Calif., Jan. 7 /PRNewswire/ -- More than 400 people will gather in California's capital city next week for Biomass Magazine's Pacific West BIOMASS Conference & Expo. The event will take place January 11-13, at the Hyatt Regency Sacramento.
Following an evening reception on Monday, the conference will get underway Tuesday with a welcome address from Sacramento city councilmember Steve Cohn and lead off presentations from James Boyd, vice chair and commissioner of the California Energy Commission, and Val Dolcini, state executive director of the USDA-Farm Service Agency of California. Boyd chairs the state's Bioenergy Interagency Working Group, which is implementing the Governor's Bioenergy Action Plan. Dolcini's agency oversees the progressive Biomass Crop Assistance Program (BCAP) aimed at advancing the adoption of biomass as an energy feedstock in California.
Boyd and Dolcini headline an event featuring more than 80 world-class presenters, 400-plus attendees representing 300 companies and organizations from the mainland Pacific West: California, Oregon, Washington, Idaho and Nevada. The program will include four tracks and 18 panels featuring technical presentations on topics ranging from anaerobic digestion and gasification to combined heat and power and advanced biofuels--all forms of sustainable bioenergy that are contributing to the region's long-term environmental goals.
"We will connect current and future producers of biomass-derived electricity, industrial heat and power, and advanced biofuels, with waste generators, aggregators, growers, municipal leaders, utilities, technology providers, equipment manufacturers, investors and policy makers," says Tom Bryan, vice president of BBI International, event organizer and publisher of Biomass Magazine. "The Pacific West has huge amounts of biomass waste resources and the region is home to dozens of biomass power plants, advanced biofuels startups, research hubs and progressive public utilities like the Sacramento Municipal Utility District (SMUD) which now derives more than 40 percent of its renewable energy from biomass."
SMUD is one of 19 organizations and sponsors backing the event, which will also feature an expo with more than 40 exhibitors and a tour that includes stops at Woodland Biomass Power, the Sacramento Regional Wastewater Treatment Facility, and Technikon Advanced Technologies.
