SAI Global's Food Safety expert Gordon Hayburn awarded the prestigious IAFP Harold Barnum Industry Award

CLEVELAND, July 24, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- SAI Global announces that Gordon Hayburn, SAI Global Technical Director of Agri-Food, was recently awarded the prestigious Harold Barnum Industry Award by the International Association for Food Protection (IAFP).

The Harold Barnum Industry Award recognizes individuals whose career highlights include - leadership achievements, service to food safety education and independent peer assessment. These achievements reflect exceptional service to the food industry, IAGP and the public at large. Gordon was nominated by well-known senior industry leaders and an IAFP Student group, that has known him through the years, recognized his achievements and recommended him for this award.

Gordon Hayburn is a highly qualified subject matter expert in the areas of food safety and food science.  He is a very knowledgeable BRC and ISO 22000 auditor, as well as a skilled trainer and lecturer. As a leader of the SAI Global Food Safety Team, Hayburn's industry expertise and food safety knowledge is available to SAI Global customers and prospects and an additional resource for their Food Safety questions.

Gordon joined SAI Global as Technical Director Agri-Food in 2011. During this time he has helped expand SAI Global's scope in the food safety sector and professional team to satisfy the growing demand of food standard management systems. Gordon's 25 years of experience in food manufacturing, food safety and auditing is a major asset in supporting and ensuring the seamless execution of SAI Global's food safety program for customers. Hayburn also conducts training for several food safety courses at SAI Global.

Gordon has been an active member of IAFP since 2000. During that time, Gordon has had made numerous contributions to the association. He was responsible for establishing and serving as President of IAFP's first European affiliate in the UK. Gordon also was responsible for establishing IAFP's Food Law Professional Development Group (PDG) and served as the PDG's first Chairperson. Gordon also holds the distinction of serving as a past-Chairperson for IAFP's Membership Committee, which is responsible for helping attract new members and serving their needs. In addition to these numerous contributions, he remains very active in numerous PDGs, including serving as a member for the Journal for Food Protection. Lastly, he is well known among IAFP members for his numerous and engaging presentations during various symposia and meetings throughout the years.
