FAIRFAX, Va., Sept. 10, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- Salient Federal Solutions, Inc. (Salient), a leading provider of information technology, engineering, and intelligence analytic services to agencies in the intelligence, defense, homeland security, cyber security, and federal civilian markets, today announced the partnership with Stop Hunger Now in its efforts to respond to emergency needs around the world. This partnership expands on the Making a Difference program which Salient has already established with other local and national nonprofit organizations.
Stop Hunger Now is an international hunger relief agency that has been fulfilling its commitment to end hunger for over 14 years. During this time, Stop Hunger Now has mobilized 200,000 volunteers to package over 71 million meals, and coordinated their delivery to 70+ countries. The organization is driven by a vision of a world without hunger and a mission to end hunger in our lifetime by providing food and life-saving aid to the world's most vulnerable and by creating a global commitment to mobilize the necessary resources. In its efforts to respond to emergency needs around the world, Stop Hunger Now receives and distributes significant donations of in-kind aid. These donations are large quantities of food, medicines, medical supplies and other such items as may be of use in fighting hunger and providing relief in a crisis.
"In our world more than 25,000 people die every day from hunger and hunger-related illnesses. In order to combat this horrific situation, we are striving to increase our ability to respond to this need," says Shelton Mercer, COO of Stop Hunger Now. "Due to the efficiency and success of our meal packaging program, we seek to engage even more volunteers in the movement to end hunger. We are proud to have partnered with Salient and look forward to our collaboration in the coming months."
Stop Hunger Now's meal packaging program provides volunteers the opportunity to package dehydrated, high protein, and highly nutritious meals that are used in crisis situations and in school feeding programs for schools and orphanages in developing countries around the world.
"We encourage all employees to embrace their role and create value through actions they take every day," says Brad Antle, president and CEO of Salient. "This is not only a Salient event, but a family event, and an international event. It is more than just donating money; it is an opportunity to actively participate in our community for a great cause."
Salient's Making a Difference Program focuses on continuous deliberate actions contributing to organizations that support people and help underserved communities. Salient has committed to supporting Stop Hunger Now by donating 30,000 meals, as well as volunteer hours to prepare those meal packages. This year's campaign, "$10 feeds 40", is available for donations. Every $10 donated, will provide forty nutritious meals. Salient will be holding two events to prepare meal packages; October 27 at its San Diego, CA office, and November 3 at its McLean, VA office. Volunteers are encouraged to participate and sign up.
