Salinas Police Officers Association Takes Action After Salinas Named "Youth Murder Capital of California"
23 homicides in 2016 - 5 in August
SALINAS, Calif., Aug. 12, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- VICE NEWS has named Salinas the "Youth Murder Capital of California" as violent crime continues to spiral out of control. It has been 37 days since Salinas police officers demanded a credible plan from city leaders on how to address our crime epidemic. The residents of Salinas and the men and women who try every day to protect those residents are still waiting.
Twenty-three murders in 2016. Five so far in August. City Leaders won't act, but we will. The Salinas Police Officers Association has created a political action committee to raise the necessary funds to support candidates running for Mayor and City Council who put public safety first in words and deeds. The committee will also vigorously oppose candidates that play lip service to public safety.
