SAN ANTONIO, Sept. 20, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- Betsy Homan, Allied ASID, an interior designer specializing in new construction, renovations and interior decoration of condominiums, family homes, ranches and vacation homes, has been named one of the top 100 interior designers in the world by the Andrew Martin Interior Design Review, considered to be the "Oscars" of the industry.
Her project, a customized home in the historic Monte Vista area of San Antonio, will be featured in the "Interior Design Review" book, the "Bible of interior design." She designed the home with a French Classic interior complete with custom-designed rugs and furniture as well as curated furniture from various design markets.
"I'm fortunate to have worked with a client who loved everything I created," said Homan, a graduate of the University of Texas at Austin. "I'm one of those lucky few people who love what they do. I studied interior design and interior decorating in college and I still love practicing after 40 years."
She is one of only 13 Americans to be so honored this year. She will fly to England to attend the prestigious award ceremony and meet the best designers in the world at The Royal Academy of Arts, Burlington House, Piccadilly, Mayfair, London on Oct. 23, 2017.
"I entered the contest on a fluke," she said. "I submitted my paperwork two days before the deadline. I thought 'I'll never make it.' But I did. I'm so honored to be included in this elite global list of fellow designers.
Her current projects include:
- South Texas ranch home
- Historic three-story Craftsman home
- Small English styled cottage
- Mexican styled condominium
"I don't want to be in a niche. My passion is working in my client's style, learning about their needs and wants – and then adapting the elements of design to fit their style and their budget," she said.
"I'm working on a very large, working heritage cattle ranch in south Texas. We're rebuilding the main house. It's very rewarding working with family memories and heirlooms," she said.
"My design philosophy is: Problem solving and space planning that cocoons its residents in style and luxury," said Homan, who specializes in new residential construction and remodels. She works with homeowners who seek high-end luxury design and decoration.
Homan has been exposed to some of the most luxurious interiors in the world. She started her career designing private aircraft interiors in the U.S., Europe and Asia for heads of state for Saudi Arabia, Abu Dhabi, Dubai and Brunei. She also worked for Henry Ford II, international industrialists, along with many other Fortune 100 corporations.
"I'm accustomed to detail. I worked in engineering for 25 years, as an interior designer. I am always looking for the best quality for my clients," she said.
She has seen the best of the best including palaces and hotels from around the world.
"I have those images in my creative toolbox. I can pull out these designs and be inspired by them for my clients," she said. "The design and craftsmanship must be exquisite. This is what I push my suppliers for – including my cabinet makers and my furniture makers."
