San Antonio's First and Only Freestanding Children's Hospital Celebrates Major Milestone in Transformation Journey
SAN ANTONIO, May 26, 2016 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The Children's Hospital of San Antonio celebrated a major milestone with the opening of its new two-story Goldsbury Foundation Lobby, the Santa Rosa Chapel, CHEF Teaching Kitchen, Café, and Child Life Activity Center. Over the past four years, the Hospital has undergone a significant transformation to become a world-class children's hospital offering comprehensive, integrated services to meet the health care needs of children.
"Today would not be possible without the commitment and vision of CHRISTUS Health and the Sisters of Charity of the Incarnate Word-San Antonio. This beautiful new lobby and our bright new spaces serve as a beacon of hope for families with sick and injured children. We want families who enter here to know they are in a place of healing and hope, where we will do everything for our children," said Elias Neujahr, President, The Children's Hospital of San Antonio.
"The lobby features a donor appreciation wall highlighting the tremendous community support we have received from individuals, foundations, and corporations – who have shared our dream of a freestanding children's hospital in San Antonio," said John Bel, President, The Children's Hospital of San Antonio Foundation.
"Through our academic partnership with Baylor College of Medicine, we have recruited a team of 150 top-notch pediatric subspecialists from around the world. We have created a level of care for children that has never before existed in San Antonio," Neujahr said. "In addition, another 100 private-practice pediatricians in our community are helping us grow to better meet the needs of our children."
Pediatric specialties include allergy and immunology, blood and marrow transplantation, cardiology, cardiothoracic surgery, critical care, Culinary Health Education for Families (CHEF), dermatology, ENT, emergency medicine, endocrinology, gastroenterology, general and trauma surgery, general pediatrics, genetics, hematology/oncology, hospital medicine, infectious diseases, neonatology, nephrology, neurology, neurosurgery, orthopedic surgery, physical medicine and rehabilitation, psychiatry, psychology, pulmonary medicine, rheumatology, sleep medicine, sports medicine, and weight loss management.
The celebration included the Hospital's award-winning video featuring Rachel Platten's Fight Song: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Sv4GPcWaQFc. Choirs from four elementary schools and ballerinas with Dance Elan provided a breathtaking performance as the video played to an audience of more than 500 people.
