San Pedro International Film Festival (SPIFFest) to Screen "Silver Linings Playbook" and 3D Shorts
The First Annual San Pedro International Film Festival (http://SPIFFest.org) opens Friday, October 12, 2012 with a celebrity red carpet beginning at 7:00 p.m. SPIFFest runs through Sunday, October 14th with screenings of "The Loneliest Planet" and "Silver Linings Playbook," as well as 3D shorts, feature films and documentaries from directors worldwide, including Canada, Colombia, Romania, Switzerland, Mexico and Croatia.
LOS ANGELES, Oct. 11, 2012 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The First Annual San Pedro International Film Festival (SPIFFest) (http://SPIFFest.org) starts Friday, October 12, 2012, 8:00 p.m. at the Warner Grand Theatre with a screening of the award-winning The Loneliest Planet. The festival's 3D shorts program takes place on Sunday, October 14th, 4:00 p.m. at the Terrace Cinemas, followed by a closing night screening of "Silver Linings Playbook."
SPIFFest opening night special guests include Congresswoman Janice Hahn, film and TV director James Fargo (The Enforcer, Every Which Way But Loose, Beverly Hills 90210), Dana Lee (Curb Your Enthusiasm, Rambo: First Blood Part II) and Brea Bee ("Nikki" in Silver Linings Playbook). Festival passes are still available and can be purchased online.
"San Pedro has a long and rich history in the cinematic arts. With dozens of feature films, television shows and commercials shot here every year, it's fitting that we now are host to a festival that celebrates the city's diverse culture and community, and its contributions to film," says Los Angeles City Councilmember Joe Buscaino.
The festival was conceived by Ziggy Mrkich, an international photographer and former film development executive. "Community support for SPIFFest has been overwhelming. We are all very excited about the festival's potential and the opportunity to celebrate the spirit of independent films in historic downtown San Pedro."
The SPIFFest film lineup includes documentaries Rock the Boat, Hajduik, Return to Byzantium, Early Learning EcoDoc, Tectonics and Quest for Energy; and shorts Heads Up, The Chronicler, Blue Hole, Marked, Initiative #435, Dog it Down, El Invento, Get A Move On, When Skies are Blue, Elegy for a Revolutionary, A Midsummer Nightmare, Nobody's Child, Lake Effect, Forgetting Regret, RomKom and Happy Birthday. The event's special 3D shorts program includes Journey, a visually stunning trek through the universe; The War of Wars, featuring a collection of over 10,000 never-before-seen stereo photos from the battlefield and the first combat film ever taken; Reality Clock, an experimental animated portrait of a watchmaker's struggle with dementia; Zombie Chic; a black comedy; and The Choice, a drama about life and death. The public is also invited to attend SPIFFest filmmaking workshops, a social media boot camp, IndieCon workshop and screenings of student shorts.
