Save the Date! Shell-ebrate Ivar's Birthday with $1.09 Menu Entrees

SEATTLE, March 6, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Another year, another shell-ebration! Ivar's Seafood Bars and full service restaurants are once again paying tribute to beloved 'flounder,' Ivar Haglund, and his would-be 109^th birthday with a deep-sea deal. On Tuesday, March 18, all Ivar's fans who purchase one regularly-priced entrée and wish Ivar "Happy Birthday," will receive a second entrée of their choice for $1.09 off a special birthday menu. From Ivar's world-famous fish n' chips to Asiago-crusted Alaskan halibut, and halibut 'n chips to grilled Coho salmon, patrons will have their pick of menu favorites. In addition to the birthday discounts, Ivar's will also treat the first 109 guests to a sweet slice of birthday cake.  

Plus, social fans can try their hand at "Ivar's Great Caper Contest" for the chance to win a $109 gift card good at the patriarch's chain of seafood restaurants. Ivar Haglund was legendary for his "capers," or comical stunts, such as clam eating contests, a Christmas walk with Patsy the aquarium's baby seal, and the clam stamp. Ivar Haglund was revered for his sense of whimsy and left a lasting impact on Seattle' waterfront and the Puget Sound community. Celebrating its 75^th anniversary year, Ivar's is still known to operate in the spirit of Haglund, who passed away just shy of his 80^th birthday in 1985.

The birthday bargain is available all day at any of the Ivar's Seafood Bars throughout Washington state, excluding stadium locations. Most Seafood Bars will have extended hours (10 a.m. – 10:30 p.m.) to accommodate the influx of hungry revelers, with hours varying by location. Ivar's full service locations are also putting on party hats to dish out the birthday deal, including Ivar's Acres of Clams on Seattle's waterfront, Ivar's Salmon House on north Lake Union, and Ivar's Mukilteo Landing overlooking Possession Sound.
