RACINE, Wis., April 1, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- SC Johnson announced this morning that they are participating in the Zika Action Plan Summit in Atlanta, Georgia, hosted by the White House and U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). The Summit will bring together federal, state and local government officials, representatives from the scientific community and private sector members to share information and tools around vector control and combating the Zika virus. SC Johnson will contribute to the collaborative discussion, leveraging their pest control expertise and extensive research of mosquitoes. Through their collaboration with the CDC Foundation, SC Johnson's support of today's Summit is part of an ongoing commitment to provide information and at least $15 million in product to help protect families from the Zika virus.
"It is critical that we prepare for the emergence of Zika in the United States. We are honored to share our expertise in pest control with the White House, CDC, federal, state and local officials, and other important organizations so that we can move closer to containing the spread of this growing global health crisis," said SC Johnson Chairman and CEO Fisk Johnson. "SC Johnson is committed to protecting needy families, here and around the world. We will continue to be a part of this critical dialogue and to support public and private sector responses to Zika."
In addition to support of the Summit, earlier this month SC Johnson donated more than 60,000 cans and bottles of OFF!® personal insect repellent to the CDC Foundation, in partnership with the CDC. The repellent will be part of Zika prevention kits distributed by the CDC and specifically targeted to help pregnant women in Puerto Rico, the U.S. Virgin Islands and American Samoa. Additional partnerships have included the Rio de Janerio-based Children's Health Association and the County of Hawaii Civil Defense Agency.
The purpose of the Summit is to convene key stakeholders from federal, state and local government with public and private sector experts to improve Zika preparedness, increase knowledge on the latest science, accelerate readiness for training and technical assistance and identify gaps in the United States' response to the disease at all levels of government. Groups and organizations will share Zika action plans with peers to collaborate on recommendations for the public.
