REHOBOTH BEACH, Del., Feb. 21, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- On February 9th, 2012 Delaware New Home Builder, Schell Brothers, was one of eight companies to take home a Judges Special Award for community service in recognition of their participation in "Extreme Makeover: Home Edition".  The 31st Annual National Sales and Marketing Awards show took place in Orlando, Florida at The Peabody Hotel during the 2012 International Builders Show.  It is the largest competition for both sales and marketing professionals and communities.

Schell Brothers' project entitled Building Happiness: Small Wonder Big Heart took place in Sussex County, Delaware in August 2011 and the show aired as a two-hour Thanksgiving special in November.  Thousands of volunteers worked alongside Schell Brothers employees to accomplish one of the largest projects "Extreme Makeover: Home Edition" has ever created, giving The Dunning Family the Jusst Sooup Ranch of their dreams, to continue their mission of helping those in need.  When accepting the award, Marketing Director Debby Coughlan acknowledged the giving spirit of the volunteer community in Delaware that not only built five structures for the family, but also raised $300,000 for an endowment to help them maintain the property for years to come. 

While Schell Brothers handled leadership responsibilities for the project, none of it would have been possible without the help of generous sponsors and volunteers, most from the local Sussex County area.  "Receiving the Community Spirit Award at Nationals this year wasn't just for Schell Brothers as a company, it was for the entire community," said owner Chris Schell.  "We had just a small part in the build; it was the sponsors and volunteers that truly made it possible."  Coughlan agreed, and added, "The real heroes are the Dunnings, who give everything they have, day-in and day-out, to feed hungry people in our state." 

In addition to the Judges Special Award for the Building Industry Community Spirit, Schell Brothers and its affiliate companies, Echelon Custom Homes, Echelon Interiors and Renew together took home five Silver Awards for Marketing Director of the Year, Best TV Commercial, Architectural Design of an Attached Home Plan, Staging of a New Home and Architectural Design of a One of a Kind Detached Home.
