CHICAGO, June 20, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- Sciaky, Inc., a world-renowned supplier of electron beam, advanced arc and resistance welding systems, will demonstrate how manufacturers can save money and boost productivity by utilizing Sciaky's groundbreaking Additive Manufacturing (AM) solution (which is also referred to as Direct Manufacturing) at the 6th International Conference on Additive Manufacturing.
Sciaky's AM solution is the only commercially available, large-scale, fully programmable means of achieving near-net shape parts. The process utilizes Sciaky's state-of-the art electron beam welding technology to produce functional prototypes and production parts at a fraction of the cost of traditional manufacturing methods. Starting with a 3D model from a CAD program, Sciaky's fully articulated, moving electron beam gun deposits metal, layer by layer, until the part is complete, and ready for finish machining. Depending on the part being manufactured, deposition rates can range from 15 to 40 pounds of metal per hour.
The conference will concentrate on process, materials, design and software development, together with supply chain and management issues, and will include novel applications of AM within various industries. Additionally, there will be dedicated sessions detailing the current leading AM research activity in the US, EU and UK.
"The AM Conference is an excellent forum to showcase Sciaky's recent advances in large-scale Additive Manufacturing technology," said Mike Riesen, General Manager of Sciaky, Inc. "We look forward to sharing our knowledge and progress with other leaders at the forefront of AM technology."
