NEW YORK, Nov. 2, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- SciMedTV announces today the official launch of the Science and Medicine Video Library at www.scimed.tv – a search engine for scientific and medical video that searches the full-transcripts of more than a quarter million videos created by over 300 of the world's leading universities, medical centers, government agencies and scientific institutions.
Doctors, nurses, scientists, engineers, teachers and students around the world can now effortlessly search the online video collections of; the NIH, NASA, NSF, CERN, ACM Siggraph, IEEE, Fermi Lab, Institute for Advanced Study, American Physical Society, Nature, Science Magazine, Royal Society, Harvard, Yale, MIT, Stanford, University of California, Oxford, Cambridge, JAMA, NEJM, Mayo Clinic, Johns Hopkins Medicine and hundreds of other universities, research centers, hospitals and publishers.
The SciMedTV user interface offers a unique sharing feature. Viewers watch the video in a window while seeing the transcript scroll in synch alongside it. Users can choose any segment of a video by selecting a portion of the transcript and posting that add-free segment of the video clip to social media or emailing it to a colleague or patient. Additionally, the search terms are highlighted in the transcript and the video can be navigated to any word in the video simply by clicking on it in the transcript.
The transcripts of all the videos in this collection were created by the video owners themselves or through YouTube's voice recognition software.
SciMedTV was founded by Gary Welz with partners Audrey Berger, David Pierce and Mark Anzalone. This project was developed at the New Media Lab of the City University of New York Graduate Center, CUNY. Mr. Welz teaches mathematics at John Jay College and Borough of Manhattan Community College of CUNY as well as the Fashion Institute of Technology of the State University of New York, SUNY.
"SciMedTV is committed to developing video tools and portals for science and medical professionals," stated Welz. "With this new website, we enable researchers and medical practitioners to quickly and easily find the precise video segment that's most relevant to their immediate needs and share it with their colleagues, students and patients – especially in an emergency."
This video index and website were created for SciMedTV by Microsearch www.microsearch.net.
