SCLAD (Spinal Cord Living-Assistance Development, Inc.) celebrates National Disability Employment Awareness Month with its Esteemed Employee Awards
HIALEAH, Fla., Oct. 9, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- SCLAD, Inc. is hosting a Luncheon to celebrate National Disability Employment Awareness Month (NDEAM) on October 17, 2014, at the Rusty Pelican in Key Biscayne, Florida. Kathleen Martinez, Assistant Secretary, Office of Disability Employment Policy (ODEP), U.S. Department of Labor, will deliver the Keynote Address. NDEAM is a nationwide campaign to raise awareness about disability employment issues and honor the many diverse contributions of America's workers with disabilities.
NDEAM, designated by President Obama and Governors throughout the Country, traces its history to 1945, when the first week in October was annually declared "National Employ the Physically Handicapped Week." Throughout the years, its name has been modified and its duration extended to the entire month of October.
At the Disability Employment Awareness Luncheon, SCLAD will honor ten persons with disabilities who are working with the Esteemed Employee Award. Thirty four extraordinary individuals employed by large and small corporate citizens of South Florida were nominated. The Luncheon and Awards ceremony are activities of SCLAD's Vocational Services Program to encourage individuals with disabilities to continue their quest for independence through employment, and to motivate employers to hire more persons with disabilities, an important initiative under Assistant Secretary Martinez's tenure at ODEP.
