SCORE Celebrates Small Business Dads and their Mentors

WASHINGTON, June 15, 2012 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- SCORE – www.score.org – mentors to America's small business, on this Father's Day, recognizes one of the greatest mentors, Dad. Small Business owners and entrepreneurs seek advice from SCORE on many levels. Whether it's a family business looking to grow or a father/son endeavor in need of planning and guidance, SCORE mentors offer the same kind of sage advice given out daily by fathers all over the world. Some of SCORE's small business success stories started with help from dear old dad and sound business advice from SCORE.

Gene Bradshaw started Portland Transmission Warehouse in 1935. His son John explored a career in Law after college then his father asked him to join the Portland Transmission Warehouse team. John took over his father's business after he passed in 1990. When new obstacles kept popping up, John came to Portland SCORE to help him guide his family's business. http://www.score.org/success-stories/portland-transmission-warehouse

Claude Steen spent a lot of his time tinkering in his garage. When his wife complained about the shortcomings of hair coloring applicators, Claude went to his workshop for a solution. He soon produced the prototype for Roots Only, the business started by Claude's daughter Susan & his wife Bonnie. Claude passed away a few years after his original design, but Susan & Bonnie have turned his idea into a booming business with help from SCORE. Today you can find Roots Only applicators in Walmart stores nationwide. http://www.score.org/success-stories/roots-only

George Chatzopoulos came to this country in 1989. His first job was working in a restaurant with his father. George spent fourteen years learning every aspect of the restaurant business with his father at his side. In 2003 George took what his father taught him and turned it into his first Chips restaurant. With the help of his SCORE mentors, George opened a second Chips location. In 2011 he was named the SCORE Bridgeport Client of the Year as a testament to the work-ethic he learned from his father. http://www.score.org/success-stories/chips-restaurants

"Sharing your experience as a father makes all the difference," said SCORE CEO Ken Yancey.
