Scott Cooper Miami Asks Should Trump Really Pardon Manafort?
U.S. presidents have wielded the power to issue pardons since it was granted to them in 1789 by Article II, Section 2, of the Constitution.

Former Trump campaign manager Paul Manafort has recently been convicted of eight counts of various financial crimes by a jury in Virginia on August 22nd and negotiated a plea deal with Special counsel Robert Mueller on September 14th that included a $45 million asset forfeiture. Trump has stated publicly that he is considering granting Manafort a pardon due to the extremely aggressive and inappropriate arrest conducted by the FBI.
Manafort's Virginia trial is about the enormous amount of money which he made from years of working with Ukraine's government and political leaders, which he is being accused of not claiming taxes amongst other financially related crimes. According to Scott Cooper of Miami, Florida Manafort's trial and conviction represent a high stake and high profile tax-related criminal case, but the way which Mr. Manafort was arrested and treated does not reflect his charges. The FBI reportedly raided the Manafort residence in the middle of the night, kicking in the door and waking the entire family from their sleep. Further, once taken into custody he was held in solitary confinement for an excessive amount of time.

Typically, the pardon power is used to mitigate the undeserved harshness of a criminal conviction or sentence. And it is the severely harsh mistreatment of Manafort by the FBI that gives Trump a purpose to exercise his ability to pardon Manafort.
