Scott Oppenheimer to Join Future Southern Glazer's Wine and Spirits as Regional President of Control States and Canada
MIAMI and DALLAS, May 19, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- As part of the preparations to launch Southern Glazer's Wine and Spirits, LLC ("Southern Glazer's"), Southern Wine & Spirits of America, Inc. ("Southern") and Glazer's, Inc. ("Glazer's") today announced that Scott Oppenheimer has been named Regional President for the Control States and Canada. This appointment will be effective on closing, which is expected to be July 1, 2016.
Oppenheimer joins the team with more than 25 years of experience in the beverage alcohol industry. Most recently, Scott served as Senior Vice President, Control States and Military, for Moet Hennessy USA. Prior to that, he has held various sales, marketing and leadership roles at Millennium Import Company, Gilbey of Canada, Heublein and E & J Gallo Winery.
Oppenheimer will report directly to Southern Glazer's future Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer, Brad Vassar. In this role, Oppenheimer will lead the alcoholic beverage Control States—Alabama, Idaho, Iowa, Maine, Michigan, Mississippi, Montana, Montgomery County in Maryland, New Hampshire, North Carolina, Ohio, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Utah, Vermont, Virginia, West Virginia and Wyoming—as well as Canada.
Peter Hickey, Executive Vice President, General Manager - SWS Control States, will be assisting Oppenheimer during the transition, and has decided to leave the company effective December 31, 2016. Hickey, who has been with Southern Wine & Spirits since 2006, after stints with Whitbread North America, Jim Beam Brands and Allied Domecq, has managed the expansion of the SWS control state business from one state, Pennsylvania, to the current operation in all 17 control markets. During the transition, Hickey will continue to directly manage the U.S. control business.

Doug Wieland, Senior Vice President General Manager for Glazer's of Canada, will report to Oppenheimer, effective July 1, 2016. Wieland has 28 years of experience in the beverage alcohol industry. He started his career with the Liquor Control Board of Ontario. Since that time, he has led multiple teams across sales and marketing functions throughout Canada. He spent five years as Vice President, Sales, with Select Wines and Spirits. Wieland joined Glazer's in 2015 as Vice President, Sales and Marketing.
Scott and his family will reside in Minnesota. He holds a Bachelor of Science degree from Regis University in Denver, Colorado.
