Scott Remington Family & Friends Host Annual Spinal Cord Research Benefit
To commemorate 15 years since his injury, Remington's event aims to reach $500,000 in funds for spinal cord research
BRANT LAKE, N.Y., March 26, 2014 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Fifteen years ago, Scott Remington was injured in a logging accident, which left him paralyzed from the waist down. From the moment he learned about his T-9 injury, Scott focused his efforts on raising awareness and funds to support spinal cord research. This March, to commemorate the 15-year anniversary of his accident, Scott Remington Family & Friends is set to host the annual Spinal Cord Research Benefit with all proceeds going to the Christopher & Dana Reeve Foundation.
"Since the day he was injured, Scott Remington has not let his accident define his life, but rather empower him and his family to never settle for anything less than cures for spinal cord injuries. His determination and generosity has contributed greatly to the Reeve Foundation as we invest in transformational research to change the lives of those living with paralysis," said Peter Wilderotter, CEO and President of the Christopher & Dana Reeve Foundation. "Scott is a pillar of inspiration and as the fifteenth anniversary approaches, we move forward to deliver on the Reeve Foundation's mission—advanced care and cures for spinal cord injuries. We are grateful for the support of Scott Remington, his family, friends, and the Brant Lake community."
Following his accident, Scott Remington was transferred to the Kessler Institute for Rehabilitation in New Jersey, and it was there that his family connected with the Reeve Foundation and cited Christopher Reeve as a source of hope as they navigated Scott's rehabilitation. In the past 14 years, the Remington family has raised over $460,000 for spinal cord research.
On March 29, 2014, the annual Spinal Cord Research Benefit will be held at Jimbo's Club in Brant Lake, NY. Beyond honoring a significant milestone, the Remington family has their sights on reaching $500,000.
"There have been challenges over the past 15 years but we continue to host this event because I don't want to see other people living with spinal cord injuries encounter the same obstacles that I've been through," said Scott Remington. "We want to be part of the cure, and help the people who need the cure the most. Not that every day is bad, but at times it can be a struggle and it would be wonderful for our community members to have it a little easier. We will reach the $500,000 mark this year and we're going to continue to support the Reeve Foundation until cures for SCI are a reality."
