"Scut Farkus" from A Christmas Story to Amend Constitution and Stop Sports Bullies
Veteran Hollywood Actor Zack Ward Files California Initiative
HOLLYWOOD, Calif., Oct. 8, 2015 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The following is issued by The Sports Vote: "I know a thing or two about bullying and I feel I'm the one being bullied right now," said Zack Ward, Ambassador for The Sports Vote and well-known for playing Scut Farkus, the world's most famous bully in A Christmas Story. "The daily fantasy sports ads that run all day, every day... the constant rhetoric around daily fantasy not being gambling... a strangely increased tolerance toward potential legalization of sports betting... the recent introduction of daily fantasy sports and sports betting bills in California... the unmistakable, yet inexcusable march toward becoming a gambling nation. I just can't take it anymore. This must stop and stop right now!"
For time eternal or nearly, the intersection of sports and money has been an undeniably attractive place. It has the potential to create a prosperous economy and take the State of California and our entire nation to unprecedented new heights. However, so far, it has manifested itself through sports betting and daily fantasy sports and produced nothing but problems and agony along with financial benefits to a very select few. Take a look at the exploding controversy over insider trading at daily fantasy sports sites. One of professional sports' largest global governing bodies is rocked with scandal after scandal. This is just the tip of the iceberg.
The mix of sports and money does not always equal gambling. Socially beneficial combinations of sports and money can, and do exist by building responsible and carefully regulated sports markets.
"I feel honored to light a bright new path in a vast sea of utter darkness. I know the people of the great State of California will get behind this when they understand everything clearly. I am just the first pioneer of many to follow. Now it's up to us... all of us. Our immediate goal is to change the California State Constitution through the Sports Integrity Protection Amendment (SIPA). With enough votes, socially responsible and carefully regulated sports trading markets will become a constitutional civil right for citizens. Then, our legislature will write the laws and fill in the details to make sure everything comes together properly," says Ward.

Reflecting on the big picture, Zack says: "I've been living and working in Hollywood for 20 years and this is a big deal... an opportunity to change direction, start an honest conversation, protect integrity, create jobs, increase tax revenue for better social services and create a better California and ultimately a better world. That's a movie I want to be in and so should you."
