SDSU's Dr. Alex DeNoble Wins Prestigious Teaching and Research Award

SAN DIEGO, Oct. 2, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- The College of Business Administration at San Diego State University (SDSU) announced today that Dr. Alex DeNoble has been named this year's recipient of the Karl Vesper Entrepreneurship Pioneer Award. DeNoble, the executive director of the Lavin Entrepreneurship Center at SDSU, was presented with the award on September 28, 2013. The award is one of the most prestigious in the field of entrepreneurship education.

Now in its fourth year, the Karl Vesper Entrepreneurship Pioneer Award is given to the "individual who has demonstrated the entrepreneurial spirit in overcoming obstacles while implementing significant contributions that have been instrumental in the ongoing development of entrepreneurship as a field of study and research."  The award was named for Dr. Karl Vesper, professor emeritus at the Foster School of Business at the University of Washington and a pioneer in the field of entrepreneurship research and education.

Of the 10 nominees this year - representing some of the top experts in the entrepreneurship field - Alex DeNoble was the unanimous choice for the award.

The award selection committee is headed by Dr. Michael H. Morris, academic director for entrepreneurship at the University of Florida. "Alex represents the very best in our field: he is an innovator in the classroom and in program building, and has overcome significant obstacles in moving the field forward," Morris explained. "He is also a caring, humble and giving educator who believes in the entrepreneurial potential of each of his students."

DeNoble was presented with the award by Dr. Vesper himself during the Experiential Classroom program held at the University of Florida. The program brings together world-renowned experts in the field of entrepreneurship with junior faculty from around the world who are new to the fields in order to share best practices in entrepreneurship education.

Dr. DeNoble has taught entrepreneurship management at SDSU for the past 30 years.
