Sears Stores Roll Out Inventories of Snow Throwers, Tractor Plows and Portable Generators as Winter Storm Nemo Blows into the Northeast
HOFFMAN ESTATES, Ill., Feb. 7, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- As Winter Storm Nemo approaches areas of the Northeastern United States, hundreds of Sears stores from Philadelphia to Portland, Maine, are preparing for a rush in demand of snow throwers and plows to clear off driveways, sidewalks and roads. Two storm systems will merge to form the Nor'easter and residents can expect snowfall at the rate of two inches an hour, winds at up to 50 miles an hour and temperatures dipping below freezing, according to the National Weather Service. Sears advises residents to clear snow off their driveways and sidewalks after every few inches as snow can become very heavy, turn to ice and stick to cold surfaces during blizzard conditions.
Sears sells more snow throwers than any other retailer in America, with almost 25 percent of the total units sold, according to Stevenson Traqline data. Historically, the largest selling region of the country is the Northeast with almost 40 percent of units sold. This is followed by the Midwest at 28 percent and the Northwest at 20 percent.
Sears online snow blower finder is a valuable resource for customers to identify the type of snow blower they require based on the driveway size, surface, type of snow and amount of snow. In order to expedite the preparations, customers are reminded that all Sears stores offer Buy Online Pick Up in Store through its website and mobile apps. In addition, items purchased online at Sears.com for in-store pick-up, will carry the Sears "Ready in 5" guarantee for SHOP YOUR WAY(SM) REWARDS Members. Members can order their snow storm essentials and pick them up from their local Sears store in five minutes or less after they scan their purchase receipt in the Pick Up areas. Ready in 5 is a feature of SHOP YOUR WAY, the Member-based program of Sears Holdings.
Sears also has a range of portable generators so that residents have the emergency power they need to run refrigerators and freezers, simple cooking appliances like microwaves and small electric ovens and lights. Basic household necessities require anywhere from 5,000 to 7,500 watts. Therefore, Sears recommends that when buying a generator, Members and customers secure a unit large enough to deliver the power they need to remain comfortable and closely follow directions for proper ventilation.
