MILWAUKEE, Sept. 27 /PRNewswire/ -- The National Association of Minority and Women Owned Law Firms (NAMWOLF) announced today that Securities and Exchange Commissioner Luis A. Aguilar will deliver the keynote address at NAMWOLF'S annual meeting, October 3-6, in Washington D.C.
Prior to his appointment as an SEC Commissioner in 2008, Commissioner Aguilar was a partner with the international law firm of McKenna Long & Aldridge, LLP. Commissioner Aguilar was named by Hispanic Business Magazine in 2006 as one of the "100 Influential" Hispanics in the United States. He previously chaired the Latin American Association, a non-profit organization that has served Georgia's Latino community for over 33 years, providing services to over 70,000 Hispanics annually.
Commissioner Aguilar has served on the Boards of the Mexican American Legal Defense and Education Fund and the Georgia Hispanic Bar Association, has been very active with national organizations such as the Hispanic National Bar Association, and has served as the President of the Hispanic National Bar Foundation.
During his tenure at the SEC, Commissioner Aguilar has been a vocal and forceful champion for investors. With Commissioner Aguilar's diverse and extensive background in the securities industry, both in private practice and government service, he has evidenced a tireless effort to promote fair, efficient and transparent capital markets. He currently serves as the sponsor of the first SEC Investor Advisory Committee as well as the Commission's liaison to the Council of Securities Regulators of the Americas and the North American Securities Administrators Association. In addition, his thoughtful recommendations for reenergizing and reinvigorating the SEC's enforcement policies and procedures have resulted in many changes that are being implemented by the SEC's enforcement staff.
Currently, Commissioner Aguilar serves as sponsor of the SEC's Hispanic Employment Committee, the African American Council, and the Caribbean American Heritage Committee.
