Second Annual Dr. Patti Flint Women in Science Scholarship is Now Accepting Applications
Scottsdale plastic surgeon Patti Flint, MD, PC is offering Arizona women pursuing education in the hard sciences the opportunity to win a $3,000 scholarship
SCOTTSDALE, Ariz., Oct. 12, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- Women in Arizona pursuing a career in the hard sciences once again have an opportunity to receive a scholarship to assist in funding their education. Scottsdale plastic surgeon Patti Flint, MD, PC has announced that the 2nd annual Dr. Patti Flint Women in Science Scholarship is now accepting submissions for 2016, with an increased scholarship amount of $3,000.
Dr. Flint established the Women in Science scholarship program to support female students in Arizona who plan to pursue careers in engineering, medicine, and natural sciences. Encouraged by the volume of qualified applicants received during the scholarship's debut in 2015, Dr. Flint is pleased to continue the program for a second consecutive year and raise the scholarship amount.
"I founded the Women in Science Scholarship to help women who want to go into science or medicine achieve their goals," explains Dr. Flint. "The number of highly qualified applicants who applied for the scholarship last year confirms that Arizona is home to many talented women who have the potential to succeed in the hard sciences and make valuable contributions to these fields."
The 2016 edition of the Women in Science Scholarship is open to female residents of Arizona who plan to attend community college or university in Arizona and pursue a degree or vocational program in medicine, healthcare, pharmacology, biology, physics or chemistry.
Non-traditional students as well as currently enrolled students and high-school seniors are encouraged to apply. "This scholarship program is designed to respect the different paths women may take to reach their goals," states Dr. Flint, who adds that "we shouldn't place age restrictions on opportunity."
The submission period opens October 10, 2016, and the deadline to submit an application is November 30, 2016. Applicants are advised to review the eligibility requirements and submit an application via the online form. Requiring a letter of recommendation, basic personal and educational information, and short essay responses, the application process is designed to be inclusive and accessible.
Applications received by the deadline will be reviewed by the scholarship committee, who will select the recipient based on adherence to guidelines and quality of their submission. The $3,000 scholarship is awarded as a cash prize to be used toward tuition and educational expenses.
Dr. Flint offers words of encouragement to applicants. "I wish all who apply this year the best of luck and look forward to helping another deserving female scientist succeed in her career."
