LAS VEGAS and PETERBOROUGH, N.H., May 19, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- The 2017 SDE National Conference will feature sessions dedicated to helping second-grade teachers prepare students for the world of high-stakes testing that awaits them in third grade. The I Teach 2nd! strand will address time management, math, struggling learners, small-group instruction, and other relevant topics. The SDE 2017 National Conference will be held July 10–14, 2017, in Las Vegas, NV.
"Second-grade teachers know how important the testing in third grade is to their children and their school. This conference is full of fresh and engaging strategies that will get students ready for the challenges ahead while making sure they enjoy the learning along the way," SDE program developer Laureen Reynolds says.
Through 75+ fun and hands-on sessions, teachers will immerse themselves in content-specific knowledge, management strategies, and engaging games and activities to help them encourage student thinking at a higher level. They'll learn how to increase fluency and comprehension of complex texts, tasks, and problems and provide interventions to support struggling students in reading, writing, and math. They'll take a fresh look at how to motivate and engage students with self-directed, project-based learning experiences that encourage higher-order thinking. And, they'll discover how to create a classroom culture that values and supports access and equity for each student.
Featured sessions of the I Teach 2nd! Strand include:
- Super Science Ideas for Your Second Grade Scientists shares outstanding, hands-on science instruction strategies to challenge even the most reluctant learners in large-group instruction and centers.
- I Can Do It Myself! Encouraging Self-Regulation & Independence focuses on how to develop the character traits of independence and behavioral mastery using fun projects and children's literature.
- Fitting It All In delves into how to integrate math, literacy, science, and social studies into the day through engaging activities, centers, and technology.
- Student-Led Learning in Your Passion-Driven Classroom presents the research and how-to's behind allowing students one hour of their week to study what they are passionate about.
"The combination of sessions dedicated solely to second grade, the hot topics teachers want to know about, and the networking with like-minded educators— all in one dynamic place—is too good to pass up!" Reynolds adds.
