Second Wind Makes 2010 a Breakout Year

SOMERVILLE, Mass., Dec. 14, 2010 /PRNewswire/ -- Second Wind, a leader in wind measurement systems for the wind energy industry, made its 30th year in business its strongest ever, with record growth, new products and a major expansion of sales channels worldwide.

Second Wind surpassed its 10,000th shipment of the Nomad 2 wind resource data logger in June 2010, making it one of the most widely used wind data solutions of its kind globally. Nomad loggers are now deployed on seven continents, from the Arctic to Antarctica.

Installations of Second Wind's Triton Sonic Wind Profiler continued their impressive growth, with more than 250 Tritons now deployed in 20 countries on five continents. Triton has amassed more than 1.6 million hours of global wind data since its launch in 2008—the equivalent of nearly 150 years of operation—making it the industry's leading remote sensing system. Triton has been selected for wind resource assessment and other wind measurement applications by eight of the world's 10 top non-China-based wind developers.

To keep up with demand, Second Wind staffed up and expanded its national and global sales channels significantly in 2010. The company's employee roster grew to over 60. Second Wind introduced Triton to the Chinese market at the China Wind Power 2010 conference and exhibition in Beijing, welcoming Beijing New Energy Technology Co. as its newest Triton Certified Partner. In addition, the company established a significant presence in South Africa and made a big push into Eastern Europe, opening a new European office to serve this fast-growing market.

On the new technology front, Second Wind added the ProMast 60 60-meter meteorological mast to its portfolio of wind measurement solutions. The company also partnered with Mistaya Engineering to seamlessly integrate Mistaya's Windographer analysis software into its SkyServe Satellite Wind Data Service to help energy companies quickly understand and analyze their wind data.

Last week, Second Wind announced its Community Wind Information Service at the AWEA Small Wind and Community Wind Conference & Exhibition.
