On Tuesday, April 13th, a Home Presentation ceremony in the community of Aliana™ will honor two time Purple Heart recipient SSGT Matt Lammers, USA (Ret.) and celebrate the start of a new beginning for him. Thanks to the HelpingaHero.org Home Program, construction is complete for a beautiful new specially adapted Mercedes Home in the Aliana ™ community. Matt is one of only 5 triple amputees in the whole nation and is the 18th hero to receive a brand new home from HelpingaHero.org.
This home is funded by Ambassador Hushang and Shahla Ansary. This is the 2nd home in Houston the Ambassador and Mrs. Ansary have funded.
Two time Purple Heart Recipient SSGT Matthew Lammers, US Army (Ret.), joined the Army at 18 to say thank you to a country that had given him a second chance on life. He was adopted at 10 months from Korea and raised in Olathe, Kansas. He served with honor and led his troops well. During his second tour in Iraq, he was in a convoy that was ambushed by insurgents and attacked with 7 EFPs (Explosively Formed Projectile-shaped Charges). He lost both of his legs and an arm. He has fought back to prove he can be independent and have a productive life. He is excited to make Texas his permanent home and appreciates all of those who have reached out to him with open arms.
This home is fully handicapped accessible and will enable Matt to be independent and do all of the normal household activities for himself...from cooking, laundry, showering, etc...every detail of the home has taken into consideration his injuries. We hope you will join us for this very special home presentation with our newest Texan.
Paul Cheng of Aliana™ said, "We are honored to partner with the HelpingaHero.org Home Program as a way to show our deepest gratitude for the sacrifices of our veterans."
Aliana™ is a 2,000-acre master-planned residential development in Fort Bend County, offering homes from the $200,000s to more than $1 million by some of the area's finest builders. "This is a unique setting unlike any other development in the Houston area," says developer Paul Cheng. Resort-style pools, parks and trails are some of development's top amenities but the $ 6 million state-of-the-art amenity center, The Club at Aliana™, will be the central gathering place for all resident activities. Another focal point of Aliana™ is the world-class Aliana Polo & Racquet Club™ featuring two championship polo fields, both recessed for optimum viewing, and one of the few lighted fields in the country for night-time play.
Aliana™ is conveniently located near two of Houston's most prestigious golf courses. The Houstonian Golf & Country Club and Shadow Hawk Golf Club. Easy access to major employment areas via the Grand Parkway and Westpark Tollroad offers an easy commute to shopping, dining, entertainment and major corporate campuses.
This 2,600 square foot home meets all the specially adapted needs of SSGT Lammers. As a triple amputee, this home is fully wheelchair accessible with a roll in shower, lower counters, flush floor transitions, widened doors, lowered appliances, etc...and has 4 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms.
"SSGT Matt Lammers is a true American hero," said Meredith Iler, National Chairman, HelpingaHero.org Home Program. "Matt has faced the enemy and was not defeated. He continues to recover and I am confident that Houston will be a fabulous community for him to rebuild his life. Matt loves Texas and loves his Purple Heart License Plates. He has battled back from a near fatal injury and has endured so much on his road to recovery. We count it an honor to help this precious hero begin a new life in a brand new home where his ability to live independently is maximized."
He has received the following Service Related Medals: Purple Heart, Operation Iraqi Freedom Campaign, Army Commendation Medal, Combat Action Ribbon (Iraq), Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, National Defense Service Ribbon.
"We are also pleased to announce that Rooms to Go will be providing furniture for the home," said Iler. "This is also the 4th home that Spark Energy has partnered with HelpingaHero.org on to provide one year of free electricity. En Touch has donated one year of Internet, Cable and Phone Service and Clearwire has donated one year of internet access on their 4 G network. Richmond Rotary Club has also made Matt an Honorary Member of their club and has raised $3,000 to be used towards his needs in the home. This is truly remarkable to see the outpouring of community support for someone who has sacrificed so much for our freedom."
