Department of Commerce Secretary Penny Pritzker today spotlighted the innovative advancements the Census Bureau has made in visualizing key demographic and economic statistics. Census Explorer, a new interactive mapping tool, provides easier access income, employment and other figures from surveys such as County Business Patterns and the American Community Survey. Census Explorer provides statistics at the state, county and census tract level for many demographic and economic data sets.
Recently added to the tool are statistics from the County Business Patterns program, which covers the number of establishments in the U.S., number of employees and average pay. The most recent Census Explorer update focuses on technological jobs and pay.
"We are adding tech workforce and payroll data to those maps so that entrepreneurs and business leaders like you can see where tech workers are geographically concentrated," said Secretary of Commerce Penny Pritzker to a group of technology industry experts in Silicon Valley today. "You will now be able to look at tech employment in regions like this one alongside other factors like education, labor-force participation and homeownership rates."
