LOS ANGELES, Aug. 25, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- Founded by a doctor and a patient, MMJRecs.com is a brand-new app that enables California medical-cannabis patients to apply for and receive doctor recommendations via their mobile devices. It is staffed by a team of licensed physicians, complies with all HIPAA regulations, and employs the same cyber-security as banks, bringing the highest possible level of safety, comfort and relief to the ill.
Patients can now receive doctor recommendations via the MMJRecs website, and the company next month will announce the launch of its app, which will enable patients to apply using their smart phones. The entire process can take as little as 20 minutes, and no office visit is required.
"The process of acquiring medical cannabis can be daunting, particularly for those who are very ill, in pain or otherwise incapacitated," said Faisal Ansari, MMJRecs.com co-founder. "This often makes people hesitant to get the medicine they need—or worse, prevents them from getting it at all. So they continue to suffer—needlessly."
Ansari knows. A former cancer patient, he has firsthand experience with the often-onerous process of acquiring medical cannabis.
That experience led him and co-founder Dr. Brian White to investigate ways to make it easier for patients to get the medicine they need while providing top-quality health care and security.
"One of the key elements for us is providing free, continuing consultations with qualified licensed physicians," Dr. White said. "What we bring to medical-cannabis patients is the same level of care they would receive at a doctor's office, but without the burdensome and often unnecessary hurdles involved in the process."
MMJRecs.com involves just three main steps: providing an electronic image of a driver's license or other state-approved ID; filling out a medical history form, and talking online with a doctor. Patients who are approved will receive their recommendations via e-mail in as little as 20 minutes. MMJRecs.com currently is available only in California, but plans to expand and help medical marijuana patients in other states are underway.
Founded in July of this year, MMJRecs.com is owned in partnership with Ansari, Dr. White, and Harris Silver, founder and CEO of EntityX, a cannabis industry firm that consults with entrepreneurs and investors.
