According to DeVriese, "We are about to embark on a new stage in the management of our company requiring oversight of our Own Risk and Solvency Assessment (ORSA). This involves a complex set of regulations. To ensure we have the bench strength necessary to efficiently position us for future growth and reporting expectations, we've expanded our staff. We have brought on board a new Staff Attorney. We have also promoted a long-term key contributor, Kathy Wood. She will lead this important initiative as Vice President of Corporate Compliance."
Wood joined Security First Insurance in 2010 as a Statutory Accountant and was promoted to Controller in 2011. She has an extensive financial background, as well as experience in regulatory compliance. She holds a B.A. in Accounting from the University of North Florida in Jacksonville.
Charles J. Grimsley, Esq. has joined Security First Insurance in the role of Staff Attorney. Grimsley's career spans nearly four decades in the insurance industry in the state of Fla. His experience ranges from serving as an attorney and Bureau Chief for the Florida Department of Insurance, a decade of private practice focusing on insurance, and serving as General Counsel for Florida's largest automobile insurance company. For a decade, Grimsley served as Chairman of the Florida Property and Casualty Association, a trade group exclusively comprised of Florida domestic insurers, during which time, he lobbied the Florida Legislature for meaningful reforms intended to improve the Florida insurance market. Grimsley is a member of the Florida Bar Association as well as the United States District Court, Southern District of Florida. He holds a B.S., M.B.A and J.D. from Florida State University. In his new role, Grimsley reports directly to Melissa Burt-DeVriese.
About Security First Insurance
Security First Insurance is built on nearly 100 years of history and experience in the industry. The company has an acute understanding of Floridians' vulnerability to natural catastrophe. Company founder, Locke Burt, was serving in the Florida Senate in 1992 when Hurricane Andrew made landfall. It was one of the worst natural disasters in U.S. history, leaving behind more than $26 billion in insured losses and a crippled insurance industry. Locke wanted better for the state and its residents and therefore created Security First Insurance. The company now serves policyholders living across the state, storm after storm, year after year.
Security First Insurance has been assigned a Financial Stability Rating® (FSR) of A, Exceptional, from Demotech, Inc. and is strongly committed to improving Florida's homeowners insurance market and initiatives that support and protect residents and communities of the sunshine state.
