DALLAS, June 12, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- Securus Technologies, a leading provider of civil and criminal justice technology solutions for public safety, investigation, corrections and monitoring, announced the United States Patent Office issued its patent to electronically capture, analyze and identify participants of a video visitation session using various facial recognition methods.
This system can:
- Identify that the person authorized by an enrollment and subsequent sign-on process is actually the person participating in the visitation session;
- Identify additional "persons of interest" that are in the field of view of the video or still frame (camera) capture device on an IFD (Intelligent Facility Device), such as an sPhone, XL terminal or tablet device.
"This patent enhances Securus' security features that we have built around providing a state of the art supervised/recorded visitation platform. It is based on what we have learned in providing the industry's best inmate voice communications platform, utilizing features such as our Voice Biometrics Platforms, to the new suite of Video Visitation products," said Scott Passe, inventor of the technology.
"This patent, issued by the United States Patent Office, is proof that Securus Technologies is a company of ideas and innovation. We continue to invest in technology to keep pace of the ongoing security needs of the corrections and law enforcement community," said Richard A. "Rick" Smith, CEO of Securus Technologies. "Patents ensure we are able to provide the technology to our customers. In addition, we have provided valuable licenses to most of our competitors to use these new patents based on agreements we have previously reached, except Global Tel Link (GTL). We filed the patent for approval at the United States Patent Office (USPO) in January, 2014 and it was approved in April, 2015, so almost 15 months to get this approved. Nice job by the USPO getting this one approved quickly," said Smith.
The latest patents Issued in 2015 brings Securus Technologies total to 233 issued patents and pending patent applications.
