DALLAS, June 12, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- Securus Technologies, a leading provider of civil and criminal justice technology solutions for public safety, investigation, corrections and monitoring, announced the United States Patent Office has issued its patent for Software Controlled Lighting for Video Visitation Devices.
This new patented technology provides software to control lighting and vary it on the device to ensure the optimum picture clarity. These software controls can either be automated or manually controlled.
This patent provides a system that ensures that all video visitation sessions have bright, consistent lighting. By having consistent lighting the image that the camera picks up is always clear with no shadows or lack of definition due to insufficient light. The lighting can also act as a signal to the user that either the connection is being made or that they are conducting themselves in an inappropriate manner. "This patented technology helps ensure that every video visitation has a top quality image, while providing greater security for all users," said Jimmy Simon, inventor of the patent. Mr. Simon works at Primonics/Securus in Montreal, Canada.
Patents are evidence of unique and innovative solutions that high tech companies bring to the market. "We consistently seek patent protection to protect our intellectual property investments. Not all patents are approved but this one was and it took almost 2 years for the United States Patent Office to approve this patent. Patents ensure we are able to provide the technology to our customers. In fact, we have provided valuable licenses to most of our competitors to use these new patents based on agreements we have previously reached, except Global Tel Link (GTL)," said Richard A. "Rick" Smith, CEO of Securus Technologies. The latest patents issued in 2015 bring Securus Technologies total to 233 issued patents and pending patent applications.
