Sen. Mark Warner Calls for Stronger U.S.-India Partnership
WASHINGTON, June 6, 2014 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- On Wednesday, June 4, Sen. Mark Warner (D-Va.) served as the keynote speaker at a policy forum examining the impact of India's recent elections on U.S.-India trade and investment ties. Warner is Co-Chair of the Senate India Caucus, and although relations between the two countries have been sensitive in recent years, he sees potential for economic growth and political harmony in "combining the oldest democracy in the world with the largest democracy in the world."
Seeing the election of India's new Prime Minister Narendra Modi as "an opportunity for a reset in our relationship," Warner laid out a framework of goals for India and the United States, both separately and jointly, in order to create a mutually beneficial partnership.
The National Association of Manufacturers (NAM), in conjunction with The Weekly Standard, sponsored the forum.
Jay Timmons, President and CEO of NAM, provided welcoming remarks. "Manufacturers in the United States are optimistic that we have before us an important opportunity to put the U.S.–India economic relationship back on track," said Timmons. "By working together on trade, investment and other issues, we can grow both our economies in a fast-paced and globally connected world economy." To view Timmons' remarks, click here.
