SGS's Karen Kyllo to Discuss Eco Index at Outdoor Industry Meeting
January 22 Seminar for Industry Suppliers Will Address Sustainability Strategies
FAIRFIELD, N.J., Jan. 21, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- Dr. Karen Kyllo, Deputy Vice President, Global Softlines, for SGS North America, Inc.'s Consumer Testing Services, has been selected to participate in a panel about the Outdoor Industry Association's Eco Index at the association's Eco Working Group Meeting this Saturday, January 22. The meeting is part of the four-day semi-annual Outdoor Retailer Winter Market in Salt Lake City.
The Eco Index is designed to drive more sustainable business practices in the outdoor industry by providing companies with a way to benchmark and measure their environmental footprint, identify areas for improvement, and make informed sourcing and product lifecycle decisions. It was recently named one of the "Ten Most Hopeful Green Business Stories of 2010" by GreenBiz.com.
The seminar in which Kyllo will be a panelist will update industry suppliers on the latest Eco Index developments, upcoming feature expansions, supplier benefits and the importance of supplier engagement. It will also address Eco Index usage and how the new standard complements existing certification programs such as Bluesign and ISO. The moderator will be Chuck Haryslak, Senior Product Development Engineer at Polartec.
At SGS Kyllo spearheads the softlines testing business, directing the full service portfolio from performance and safety testing to final inspection, care labeling, and regulatory advisory services. Her expertise in the textile and apparel regulatory and testing industry spans more than two decades of global technical client services, operations management, and participation in industry standards development.
Kyllo's industry contributions include chairing the D13.52 Flammability committee for the American Society for Testing and Materials (ASTM), and active involvement in both U.S. and international test method development through the American Association of Textile Chemist and Colorists (AATCC), ASTM, and ISO.
