This service uses software that is certified through the Cryptographic Module Validation Program (CMVP), a program jointly operated by the United States Government's National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST).
When federal agencies and departments select and partner with preferred vendors, the use of FIPS-140 certified software and hardware is a requirement. In 2008, SHC Direct implemented software and infrastructure solutions, which allow it to offer FIPS compliant platforms.
The 140 Publication Series improves the utilization and management of computer and telecommunications systems in the Federal Government. Operated through the Information Technology Laboratory under the NIST, the system leverages leadership, technical guidance and coordination of government efforts through the development and maintenance of standards and guidelines.
