Age UK Highlights Need to Shop Around for the Best Home Insurance Coverage

Age UK is advising those later in life to shop around before buying contents and buildings insurance.  

Age UK encourages customers to seek out the best deals by researching the market and using tools, such as the internet, to plan and calculate the amount of home coverage they feel is suitable to their needs.  However, in addition to the internet, Age UK Enterprises also offers a friendly face-to-face service through its national network of 102 Trading Alliance Members (TAMs) so people can access advice and guidance directly.

Although 5.4m people aged 65 and over have never been online(A), 4 million people of the same age use a computer once a week or more(B), making it easier to find suitable home insurance, according to second quarter figures published by the Office for National Statistics. The internet offers older customers one of several apt means of researching the home insurance market; enabling quicker searches and access to a wider pool of helpful advice and guidance. 

However, Age UK has found that one of the main issues for insurance customers over the age of 55 is the lack of adequate coverage tailored towards their personal and financial needs. Therefore they suggest those in later life do their research and seek out the best contents and/or buildings insurance coverage before settling with one policy.
