"Show Stress Who's Boss," Back-To-School 5-Day Health Hack Challenge to Reduce Stress For Students
DoSomething.org and CVS Health team up with Content Creator Andrea Russett to "Show Stress Who's Boss"
NEW YORK, Aug. 22, 2017 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Stress is one of the leading factors that has impacted academic performance for college students in the last 12 months.1 Finding yourself in a hectic situation, whether it's managing a tight deadline or struggling in a class, can really stress you out.2 This is the battle many young people face every year for back-to-school season.
Because many young people don't have proper coping strategies, industries like tobacco exploit that and position themselves as a way to deal with stress3 which leads to young people developing habits that don't help them in the short term and have proven to be harmful to them throughout their lives.
That's why DoSomething.org, one of the largest organizations for young people and social change, and CVS Health, America's leading pharmacy innovation company, have teamed up for "Show Stress Who's Boss." The national campaign encourages young people to send friends 5 days worth of easy, effective health hacks that will fight back-to-school stress and help them live their best lives. Launched on August 1st, the initial goal of the campaign was to register 50,000 young people, to date, over 30,000 have already joined.
Young people can sign up at DoSomething.org/Boss, where they can submit their phone numbers to receive the SMS messages. Those who sign-up will automatically be entered for the chance to win a $5,000 scholarship.
"This campaign is a great way to start the school year," said Michele Fino, Chief Marketing Officer at DoSomething.org. "By setting young people up for success before the school year gets started, we'll reduce the number of people who experience stress and anxiety, setting them up for a healthier happier life throughout the year."
Actress and content creator Andrea Russett recorded a public service announcement, performing the hacks, such as wall squats, drinking more water, and stretching; to encourage young people across the country to join the campaign.
"Smoking isn't a solution for stress, quitting is," said Eileen Howard Boone, SVP, Corporate Social Responsibility & Philanthropy, CVS Health. "By partnering with organizations like DoSomething.org, we're working to reach young people with healthy interventions and change behaviors to help them cope with stress so they don't turn to smoking."
In 2014, CVS Health became the first, and remains the only, national retail pharmacy to eliminate the sale of cigarettes and tobacco products from its stores. In 2016, the company expanded its commitment by introducing #BeTheFirst, a five-year, $50 million initiative to help deliver the nation's first tobacco-free generation.
